For all of you participated in the parade this year, thank you. It was a huge success. The Coast Guard Flyover was spectacular.

A very special thanks to Mr. Renee Rancourt for his incredible renditions of both National Anthems.

I would also like to thank Jim Corsey for throwing out our 2008 first pitch.

I would also like to thank Tim Lacasse, who coaches in our minor division. Tim is responsible for having Renee and Jim on hand for us, and I think that they were an incredible addition to this year’s parade.

For the past few week’s you have been selling meat raffle tickets for us. Let me say a few words about our Meat Raffle night on Saturday May 10. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Weary Traveler’s club in Monument Beach. A pasta dinner will be available for $5.00 a person, and the cash bar will be open for the entire evening.

We will be having a minimum of 15 individual raffles, with the possibility of many more. Each meat or seafood raffle will be valued at $100.00 or more. Our 2 grand prize raffles are valued at least $200.00.

I can’t stress enough the importance of all of our fundraisers here in BYB and BBR. We are a 100% self-sufficient organization, which means that we receive $0.00 from the town in support. We do all of what you see at the fields, the dedicated team of volunteers. We mow, paint, rake, cut down trees, and replace infields, etc. etc. etc. We also are looking for more volunteers, as we always have a shortage in this category. Our volunteers work 12 months a year to insure that our leagues run as smoothly as possible, so that all of our stars have an enjoyable time here playing. Please if you have any spare time at all, we would love to have you get involved and help us out. I can personally guarantee that it is time well spent.

Also returning this year will be our 2nd annual Home Run Derby, to be held on June 14. Please take the time and download the information from our web site and plan on joining us this year. Last year was our 1st year and it was a huge success and everyone had a blast. All you moms and dads who wish to swing for the fence, come on down and lets see what you got.

Once again, thank you all for participating in our leagues and have a great season.

Tom Gibson,
President Bourne Youth Baseball & Bourne Babe Ruth

Baseball trivia

Who is the only pitcher with over 3,000 strikeouts and fewer the 1,000 walks?

(Give up?, you can get the answer by clicking on the green grass)

You make the call

The batter bunts, drops his bat and runs toward 1st base. As he runs, the ball spins back toward the plate and strikes the bat in fair territory deflecting the ball down the 1st base line and preventing the 3rd baseball from making a play on it. Is the batter out?
