To our friends and baseball fans,
When we began this thing many years ago it was hard to see this day
coming, as we all began to re-build Bourne Youth Baseball. But, now the
time has come for me to step aside, however I can't do that without
properly thanking each and everyone of you who rolled up your sleeves to
make our leagues the absolute best around - BAR NONE!!
With all of you contributing and busting your butts we were able to
transform our fields into the best around. We were able to install
lights at MO Beach. We have sound systems which are second to none.
But it is so much more that we have accomplished. We put out the best
possible baseball program on the Cape. All of you who have been league
coordinators, please take a bow - it is very much deserved. We know it's
tough dealing with so many different personalities in regards to
parents, but you all listened and accommodated them all. I would be
remiss if I didn't send out a very special thank you to Brien Magunniss
and his entire family for all of their hard work, and for making all of
the wonderful signs which are used annually at our kick off parade.
To all of you who spent many many hours at the fields during our lengthy
work parties. WE took out a huge portion of the field at MO Beach and re
did it, and you were all there. I would like to especially thank Mark
Hebb and Jamie for their unbelievable work on that project. In the end,
what the kids got to play on was and is one hell of a Field of Dreams.
The lighting of MO Beach would never have been possible without the
extremely generous donation of the lights and all of the wiring
equipment necessary by Bob Johnson, owner of Johnson Electric in
Sagamore. Thank you Bob. You are unbelievable!!
Also involved heavily with that project was the 101 Fighter Wing from
Otis. They came and installed all of the poles and set the lights for
us. The base has and always will be such a great neighbor to Bourne.
We have been fortunate over the past few years to host 2 Cal Ripken
State Tournaments. I am proud to share with all of you the many
wonderful compliments that we received from not only the State
Commissioner, but from so many of the visiting teams, on the condition
of our fields, to the wonderful volunteers who worked the tournaments.
We also have a Great reputation for holding our summer tournaments, and
that deserves a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to you all, because without you all
being there and working and VOLUNTEERING as you do, none of this would
have been possible.
I have included a lot of people on this email, and if I accidentally
left someone out, I apologize. I tried to include everyone from the
early years up to present, as this was a team effort from day one, and
you all played such a tremendous part of where we are today.
Jamie Sloniecki. What can I say my friend? In the early days we spent
some serious time together. I hope that you still have your phone
programmed for Do Not Answer when I call you, because God Knows I
certainly called you enough.
Don Dostie. You truly are and have always been the back bone of our
organization. I'm not sure what we would have done without you and all
that you do for the league. It really is unbelievable what you do for
us. Thank you.
Coach Bob. There is no one I know that has the memory and drive that you
have. When it comes to all of the equipment and uniforms, you are like a
factory, and when it comes to your knowledge of operations, and
especially how quickly you can put numbers and brackets together - YOU
ARE SPOT ON!!!
Mike Sorenti. I could go on for a long time Masher. You have the biggest
heart of anyone I have ever known. Your generosity is second to none.
The kids who not only played for you, but everyone who got to know you
are blessed. All those kids are better today because of it.
Volunteering as we all know is difficult, especially in these trying
times in our lives. You are all very special for volunteering as you do,
as we all know that the volunteer list just gets shorter and shorter
every year. If I could give some free advice as I slip out the door. Try
not to let the lack of volunteers get you down, and remember why we all
do what we do, and that is for the great kids of Bourne. It is what it
is. Control what you can, and always persevere.
I have one last person I wish to thank, and that is my beautiful wife
Maura. When we first met, she asked me if being at the fields all the
time was what my life was about?, and of course I said yes, but she has
been there with me side by side the entire trip since we met, and hunny
- thank you. Very much appreciated.
I will also close with, the best friends that I have ever known and will
always treasure are all of you and everyone that I have encountered
during the wonderful trip.
I'm not going far, and I will be just a phone call away. I wish you all
the very best as you beginning the next journey of Bourne Youth Baseball
and Bourne Babe Ruth.
It has been a pleasure sharing the field with you all.
Gibby
